Head injuries
October 2012
Head injuries to children can have a devastating effect on the child and their family both in terms of the emotional and economic effects.
Families with disabled children can earn between 15% and 20% less than other families through loss of income from caring for their child and a day in a specialist unit from a serious incident costs the NHS £1,000 a day.
Consultant paediatric neurologist, Dr Andrew Curran from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital talks about the long-term economic effects on families and the broader society of caring for a child with a disability.
