Using social marketing techniques to tackle health inequalities

A new report from the National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) looks at the role of social marketing in tackling the social determinants of health.

Social marketing approaches can play an important part in child safety strategies, helping to influence specific behaviours while also creating an environment which enables positive change to be made and sustained.

The report called 'What role can social marketing play in tackling the social determinants of health inequalities?' draws on national and international case studies and explores a wide range of social marketing projects and programmes that have had a positive and sustained impact on the social determinants of health inequalities.

The report concludes with recommendations for central and local government, the NHS, charities and the third sector, and the private sector.

The need to share good practice and learn together is particularly highlighted in the report.
